Take a look at behind the scenes of SABEU (Part 3) and meet our first CTO Markus Kratzenstein, who joined the company on February 1st, 2023.

As CTO, he leads all technology-focused departments such as R&D, as well as all operations and quality departments. With over 20 years of experience in the medical and life sciences industry, Markus has worked in various regions of Germany. Originally from Regensburg, Bavaria, he grew up near Lübeck in the north of the country. When he is not driving technology developments at SABEU, he enjoys spending time with his two daughters and pursuing outdoor activities such as sailing, golfing, and jogging by the sea.

What is your first impression of SABEU after 5 weeks in your role as CTO?
I think SABEU is an interesting company with a highly motivated team and a lot of experience in plastics and membrane technology that can support customers with products for their vision to save lives. It is also interesting to note that although the company provides a specialized technology, it is not only willing to provide high quality products, but is able to do so! When it comes to challenges, the team finds creative solutions, and that's not something that can be taken for granted in today's world.

What inspired you to pursue a career in technology, and how did you get started in this field?
I grew up in a very small village with a lot of nature. We used a lot of technology in agriculture and other fields. Then I realized that I had to combine my interest in technology with something meaningful. I went to university and studied mechanical engineering. During that time, I came into contact with a medical device manufacturer that made "technology for life." That was the starting point.

How do you see future technology in the industry in which SABEU operates, and how do you plan to position the company to take advantage of these trends?
The life sciences industry is key. We need to enable researchers, as well as other customers in various other industries, to do their work without animal testing and without the risk of hazardous materials. With our plastics and membrane technology, we are able to develop and produce new products with new properties that make research and testing safer, faster and more reliable without shifting the risks to animals or others.

We are excited to welcome Markus to our team and hope he will help drive SABEU's growth and innovation!
